The behavior of _default_ and * did not change between 2.2 and 2.4. The change
to the doc was made because there was a lot of misleading stuff on various
third-party websites about how _default_ was treated, and I was trying to
clarify that it is simply an alias for *, with * being the preferred syntax
(mostly just because it's shorter).

So, I could, I suppose, support removing _default_ if someone felt strongly
about it, but I like leaving it in because it's valid syntax, and the docs are
intended to be exhaustive while recommending best-practice.
