That is actually a known issue with PHP and the included mysql libs..
You should be using the system libs when compiling PHP, otherwise no
other mysql based module will work with PHP on OS X and Linux as well..
(that goes for any auth_mysql libraries as well).  There is nothing I
can do to fix that issue unfortunately. It has to do with conflicting
symbols between the PHP mysql and the system MYsql (ie. different
version of the library) AFAIK. You should compile PHP with
--with-mysql=shared,/path/to/mysql/libs/and/headers
So PHP will use the system PHP libraries and not the PHP included
libraries then there will be no issue at all.
