RE: Perl/PHP/PostgreSQL interface

I duno, I've always been told that running X on a web server is not good
to do for performance and security reasons. But if this is for your own
personal usage then you are the buck stops with you. It better to simply
trigger a command line mp3 decoder than one that requires X. Somehow
seems more logical to me. ;)

Why is that uncool?

I was thinking of having the server in question plugged into my stereo 
system and also to my tv somehow.  That way I could have the server 
display the current track playing in big letters on the screen.

I've been experimenting with XOSD - if I can get it to coexist
peacefully 
with the screen savers, I can just let the screen savers run showing 
pretty pattens on the monitor with the current track's info displayed
over 
that.
