Well, I don't control the server, and I spoke with the administrator, 
and since it is a production server that serves more than me, he is not 
willing to recompile and run a debug version.

I think you have a good chance of reproducing this problem if you use 
Apache 1.3 with mod_ruby.  Just try to force 500 errors on a page.

Thanks for trying to help!  I'm hoping I won't have to use PHP...
