If you are still interested in this from a debugging perspective, I 
can. However, following advice from the mailing list, I used the latest 
dev version of mod_ruby and everything immediately worked (it compiled 
fine on MacOS X 10.3 and now Apache works, and eRuby works parsed in 
the .rhtml pages).
