mod_survey 3.2.4 install problems

Sorry to be a pain, and I hope it's appropriate to post this here, but I can't
find anywhere else to ask.  I'm trying to upgrade my (working) 3.2.0 mod_survey
install to 3.2.4, but after install.pl I get the following error on starting
apache2:

Environment:  running Apache2 v2.0.51, mod_perl v1.22, on debian 2.2.20. 
Previous version of mod_survey (3.2.0) works fine  - mv'ing the old directory
back in in place of the 3.4.2 install ressurrects the old mod_survey again.  
Perl is 5.8.4 - full -v info below.  Have tried turning PerlSendHeader On and
Off - no effect.  Have tried copying survey.conf into mods-enabled and pointing
to it in apache2.conf - no effect.

Any advice or suggestions gratefully received!
