Thanks, I'll test this when I can find an USB mouse again. The dept technicians took theirs back before I could test the gcc install. Anyway, I think it shouldn't be that hard to make a preconfigured package for MacOSX, perhaps as a fink thingy. I spontaneously liked MacOSX.
