If you're using a digital interface of some kind, make sure you have it set to play from the computer (DAW), and not "direct"(source). some will indicate USB meaning computer or DAW, which in this case is Audacity. Can you see meters moving and a waveform on the screen, confirming that there is audio recorded in that file?
