TAPE TO MP3 RECORDER DOES NOT FUNCTION ON MAC BOOK PRO

Version MAC OS High sierra 10.13.4
Audacity 2.1.3
Lame library v3.99.5

I see "USB PnP Audio Device in the input section of "SOUND".
They ask me to select between two gray lines, the first one being "Internal
microphone".
I click on the second that becomes blue.
I cannot "enter" that choice but if I get out and come back, it appears
selected in grey.

Afterwards, when I want to create a MP3 using audacity, the internal
microphone is selected without another choice.
A friend could get the USP device yestarday and create a MP3 but I cannot
achieve it today?
