saving file (MP3) every hour or per 'x' megs

I have a friend trying to use Audacity to record the input and output in his HAM radio transmissions. Everything is working GREAT! Audacity is doing great in recording the input and output perfectly!

The functionality he seeks is related to the fact that he wants to record live for 24 hours and be protected from data loss in the event of a PC crash. If the Audacity file which is working great could be saved every ‘x’ amount of time or ’x’ amount of size/megabyte then he would be at less risk of data loss in a situation where the Windows PC crashed. 

From my reading Audacity saves the info of its recording in a temp file and if there is a crash it will try to restore on restart. 


Is there any protective measure he could take to better ensure he does not lose data in the event of a Windows crash????
