Re: Problem getting sound through headphones running 2.2.2 on macOS High Sierra

Funny you should ask. I originally thought this problem was a configuration issue, which is why I posted about it here, on the Users reflector. Sometime after doing that, I realized just what you said. If I plug the headphones in before starting up Audacity, I get the option to switch to "External Headphones", and that works. I noticed a problem, though. If I unplug the headphones while Audacity is running, I can switch back to "MacBook Pro Speakers", and get sound that way, but if I plug the headphones back in again, I can't get it to play out of headphones again, even if I re-select "External Headphones". If I try that, and hit "Play", I get an error message from Audacity saying that it can't use that device. I have to restart Audacity (with headphones plugged in) to get headphone output
  back. 

I've posted about this on the Quality reflector, since I now consider this a bug.

Did you plug the headphones in after you started Audacity? If so, try 
restarting Audacity. I've had this problem before, where I'll either 
plug in a new device or enable Stereo Mix while Audacity is running 
and have to restart Audacity in order to use said device with 
Audacity.
