truncating only labeled silences

Hi all,
I am helping a friend murge files using Audacity, and I've got some
questions of my own as well. I'm running Audacity 2.1.3, not sure what
version he's running. Apparently, he's having problems murging the
files together, but I have that down so I can help him with that part
if he decides he wants to go that route. He has already murged the
files in Goldwavv, so he may not want to start over. The problem is
the small gaps where the files come together. If he murges the files
using Audacity, then only selecting a small segment around the murge
point and running truncate silence does the trick. However, how do I
find silences of this nature, whether caused by a file murge, or
whatever causes them when I'm recording an internet stream, and
truncate them without getting any false positives? My thought was to
use the silence finder, but that doesn't seem to be able to locate
silences that small. Even if it was able to, after reviewing the
output of the silence finder and removing labels of silences I don't
want removed, how do I only truncate the remaining labeled silences?
