Does anyone has an idea how to fade a sample from right to left (through the head)

Hi, in the 80s I once fell off my bycicle when I heard Pyramid from Andreas Vollenweider on my walkman because of a psychoacoustic effect. Within that song there's a ping sound that fades a bit from right to left. How can you automate this ? Is there a flanger which doesn't touch the sound (AFAIK a flanger uses a sinus wave). I'm interested into an effect that fades a sound through the head when using a headphone. Is there a Nyquist plugin which might be usable for this ? Or a VST ?
