What should the vocal track look like.

I do very simple recording in Audacity. Can someone send me a screen shot of what the vocal should look like. I record all the instruments on one track at the moment and have a pretty good idea of what the track looks like for optimal use, but my vocal track seem to be set right in the monitoring pane, but the result in the track does not have peaks like the instruments and comes out very low volume.
