Re: Csound for Zaurus

I haven't tried any MIDI stuff on the Zaurus.  The 5500 does connect to
a PC via USB but it can't be a USB host by itself, you'd need something
like this compact flash adaptor
(www.rexpccard.co.jp/english/products/subpages/cfu1u/html) to do that. 
And that doesn't have a Linux driver yet ...

Or maybe you could do something with the IrDA port, that just appears as
a serial port to the Z.  Hmm.

In any case, I think you'd struggle to do much in real time besides
playing sine waves on a 5500 anyway.  All this has made me think how
much fun it would be if you could get a handheld like the Zaurus or Ipaq
that was optimised for DSP and floating point stuff instead of being an
overgrown diary.  The flexibility of Linux, the portability of a
handheld, & all the fun of a touchscreen [1], we just need the
processing oomph to back it up. Maybe in a couple of years. [2]
