On my Toshiba C55A laptop (where I do almost all of my ripping), I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB which is rated 100% and has never failed to work correctly for me using Easy Audio Copy.
On my desktop, I have a BluRay player (not a writer) that is starting to crap out on me. I'll replace it with a BluRay reader/writer this time. I don't do CD ripping on that machine, so I'm not too worried if it is on the accuraterip list.

Disclaimer: never used Mac, only Windows. Then again, I've never heard
of drives only working on one operating system.
For what it's worth: I've been using various external and internal LG
drives for 10+ years and never had any problems.
Also: before you buy, make sure your drive is listed on
http://accuraterip.com/driveoffsets.htm.
