Every email list I've ever been on in the history of the Internet has the same problem. Even when my employer sends a broadcast email to employees there will be a few people who reply-all asking not to send them email. Somehow that goes through the server and tens of thousands of people get those messages, then they start telling that person to stop, and it's a cascade.
