Relationship of Ecasound -b to jackd -n and -p settings

With the default, -n 2, latency is 2 times the period size in samples set by -p. For -p 64, the jack client process callbacks (such as Ecasound's) execute every 64 samples. The latency would be double that, 128 samples, 2.6ms at 48kHz. So what would be the best match for that in Ecasound's -b setting? I would believe it should be -b 64, so that both deal with data at the same period and in the same size of buffer. Does anyone have experience or knowledge in this area?
