Are the 4 mic pre's on an Apogee Ensemble extra A/D's?

The Apogee Ensemble has 8 in and 8 out digital conversion. Are the 
extra 4 mic pre's actually an extra 4 A/D's. This would make the 
Ensemble 12 in, 8 out. It seems a little misleading the way the 
advertising states it's features. Especially seeing how much money 
Apogee converters cost.
