Re: Unitor8/AMT8 odd problems

I've got two AMT8's chained in one location, and one on its own in a  
second location. Things work, but they're flaky. I sometimes have to  
restart interfaces, and I sometimes need to reassign them.

OTOH, I have my Yamaha XS8 hooked up via USB, and that's always perfect.

AMT8's and Unitors are getting pretty long-in-tooth. They were  
discontinued even before Apple bought Emagic, so we're looking at  
ancient history as far as hardware is concerned.

If I was going to continue on with MIDI, I think I'd buy some newer,  
more modern interfaces. As it is, I'm hoping to dump anything with a  
MIDI plug on it, and just network two computers via ethernet using the  
new VSL Ensemble Pro.

Sad to say, MIDI is a dinosaur.

FWIW, are your USB cables up to snuff quality-wise, and under 5 meters  
long? Have you experimented with different USB hubs, and different  
order placements? Do all your MIDI interfaces have the latest  
firmware? Any potential problems with the power adaptors being  
marginal or on their way out?

As far as trouble shooting goes, try paring things down to just one  
interface, and see if you can get that running perfectly with no  
problems. Then add from there until the problems show up.
