Macbook Pro into DIGI 192

I am using a "toslink" optical cable - one end from the headphone out of my MB Pro (with a supplied adaptor) into the Optical IN of the 192 (NOT the ADAT optical in). I am running LOgic (looped) playing a synth sound with visible levels on the MB Pro and input enabling a track in Pro Tools with the Optical input selected for inputs 1/2

The sound prefs show digital out put from the Macbook Pro, but no sync options selectable. pro Tools is not complaining about sync (as it does when there's an issue)

BUT - No sound...nothing

ideas?
