synchronization problem

I hope some-one can help me with a sync problem. I'm trying to use external sync with my monomachine. I checked auto sync in, put logic into record and enabled the transport bar sync button but logic doesn't respond. It actually looks like its recording a fraction of a bar but the playhead ruler doesn't move. I haven't used external sync in a while (since logic 7 actually) and was wondering if there is something I'm forgetting/missing. I tried it with my Doepfer Maq16/3 too and got the same results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
