OK, I'll indulge you.
The Apogee for under $500 is the best sounding. If you are concerned with the sound of the D/A converters, the duet is hard pressed to be beat in that price range. In addition, the support I've received from them over the years has been nothing short of stellar. I've used many Apogee products over the years.
RME also has good sounding products with a lot of bang for the buck. Their D/A converters sound very close to the apogee rosetta line to me. RME also takes support very seriously. Good people work there.
Metric Halo is another company with a great product and great support.
None of these three are the cheapest, but IMHO, are some of the best.
Next, Focusrite has gotten a lot better over the years. I don't know what their support is like now, but last time I dealt with them they made me feel like I was bothering or inconveniencing them. I'm not sure what the current line sounds like, though their software emulations can be quite good. The new line also has some really great features and I'm looking forward for a chance to work with one personally.
MOTU. Well, if you can't say anything good...
