There is no software plugin version of the Motif.

Very few hardware synths can be instantiated
as a plugin (Virus TI for example).  The plugin
interface is simply control over the hardware, and
the audio from the hardware is routed into the software
via USB.  So it all kind of behaves like a software plugin,
but the DSP is being handled externally.

The Motif comes with CONTROL software, but this
is simply a stand-alone program that has remote control
of the hardware.  The audio from the hardware isn't routed
through the software via USB.

The only way of getting the audio from the Motif into the
computer is via the same method you'd use to record a microphone:
plug the audio output of the synth into your audio interface.

In Logic you can use a Software Instrument track and instantiate
the "External Instrument" plugin.  The advantage is that the same
track that holds the MIDI also routes the audio.  However, you
won't have access to the patch matrix for switching sounds in Logic
(you'll have to do it all on the Motif, or use that stand-alone Motif
software).

I use a different method (the old fashioned way). I use standard MIDI
tracks (Multi Instrument for Motif) to trigger the hardware synth. And
then create an Audio Track with the "I" button pressed (to monitor the
input always).  I used to use a Physical Input Channelstrip (or Aux Channelstrip),
but with the advent of the "I" button it's just way easier using the same Audio Track
that will ultimately be used to record the output of the hardware synth anyway*.


*yes, I always track the hardware synths... it's safer that way.  And I can always
do several passes if the synth only has stereo outputs but I want several separate
tracks of different hardware sounds.
