That's what's supposed to happen! Display in this case
means 
< what do you want the unit to DISPLAY in the window
about the preset you just recalled> Info means you get
more info, name means the NAME is bigger.
The contrast is controlled by the LCD setting, default
of 6 <Patrick McGoohan>
The backlight isn't much to look at, its like a
laminate for a Barbie Gig, pink and too  tall fir it's
width. Two terminal at one end which are sealed inside
the laminate, leaving two skinny flat matchsticks, the
Barbie legs. When the two legs get 100V AC across them
the panel flouresces for a year or 6.
MIDI-rakete.de is the website. The replacement is a
bit harder than most things, but it's do-able 
Before you start, make sure you have a soldering iron
with a small clean tip, a scalpel or something similar
to coax the old legs off the board with. It might be
worth having a look before you order anything, it may
be the the inverter, the black metal box on the board.
There should be 100V AC on the mini molex 2 pin that
leads from it towards the front panel.
I could take my HR-MP5B apart and do pics if required,
despite the new backlight, it's still dark, sso does
neeed a tweak.
I assume you're in the US from the timing of your
messages, or I'd suggest a visit to the workshop.
