I'm using a modern(ish) system using fast PCs. I have a fast PC running Cubase Pro 8 on Windows 7 64-Bit. This has a Steinberg Midex 8 attached (unbelievably you can get a Midex driver for W7 64-bit!). There is also another older PC running Windows XP with its own Midex 8, connected to my old synths. <br>The XP machine runs all the legacy software and old patch editors including SD.<br><br>The best thing about the system is that the PCs are linked using Tobias Erichsens excellent (and free) rtpMIDI package using the standard Gigabit Ethernet ports on the PCs. This provides a "near zero latency" communication between the PCs and I use MIDIOX (also free) on the XP machine to route the sequencer tracks running on the W7 machine to the old synths connected to the XP machine.<br>(
Until recently, I was using an old laptop machine running XP which worked just as well).<br><br>This provides me with a very flexible system and means I don't have to physically rewire stuff as everything is done using software.<br><br>As a bonus I can also connect my Macbook Pro running OSX into the system (also running Cubase Pro 8) via ethernet because OSX supports the rtpMIDI protocol natively.<br><br>The moral of the story is - don't chuck out your old computers if you have old synthesizers!<br><br>Cheers...<br>Nick<br><h1 id="site-title"><span><a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/" title="Tobias Erichsen"></a></span></h1>
