Hi Udo,

The answer to this question is not easy.  It depends on what operating 
system you're writing for, and in the Windows world, on various 
configuration issues.  In any case, there are several packages listed at 
http://www.freedb.org/modules.php?name=Sections&sop=viewarticle&artid=27 
which do just that.
