ASIO is single client, so JACK is already an impressive improvement in
functionality.

IMO nowadays the most pragmatic solution nowadays is to run the distro
PA for system audio, and JACK for your low latency audio needs.  IIRC,
the bridges are still proof of concept code, but seem to work.
