It appears you may be right.

I have been researching an audio problem of mine for a very long time, several 
months, and thought I finally was on to something. I thought gcc4 was one of 
the culprits, but as it appears I did a mistake in my testing and switched 
between a smp and uni kernel at about the same times.
Still struggeling to understand, leaning towards smp (amd64) now.
