Actually Lame's default setting is not "brutal" (aka "forced" joint
stereo) joint stereo, but actually "smart" joint stereo.
The encoder decides for each frame which is the optimal mode between
joint stereo and "separated" stereo, instead of blindly forcing every
frame to use joint stereo. There is thus no need to change this default
setting, which is providing an improvement over "forced separated"
stereo.
