Re: Lame Pop-up Issue

This is a recurring e-mail on which we cannot do much. As you found out,
the problem is in the packaging of the codec by a third party.
The LAME team does not distribute the encoder and associated libs in binary
form. But one of the components is supposed to be used as an encoder for
windows applications that make use of the old "ACM codecs".

The problem is that sometimes, this component is incorrectly registered by
third party as a decoder also, and when it is invoked in that way, it shows
the (annoying) about box. (in fact, LAME can be compiled with a decoder,
but that feature is not available to the ACM codec).

I told the developers once that maybe adding a note in the main website
could help users understand that it's not LAME's fault, and could prompt
third parties to fix their components. So far, nothing has changed much on
this subject.
