I think it's largely already happened for singles
(http://hmv.com/hmvweb/navigate.do?ctx=-1%3B1%3B-1%3B-1%3B-1&pGroupID=1&pSubGroupID=207
shows more UK vinyl singles than CDs - back to the 80s?) but I can't
see albums disappearing any time soon, unless they want to lose a big
potential market.  It's interesting to note that the CD singles listed
on the HMV page are some of the biggest sellers of last year.  Syco in
particular (Simon Cowell's company behind the UK X Factor releases)
always seem to do a CD release and they have the most #1 singles of
recent times.  I think the lack of CD singles has already affected the
sales of more established artists where their fanbase is used to being
able to buy a CD single (e.g. Madonna, Kylie).
