install error

when running the install script I hit proceed with install and get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_connect() in 
/var/www/html/netjuke/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 166
anyone know how to fix this?

I'm running mandrake 9 with Apache-AdvancedExtranetServer/1.3.26 (Mandrake 
Linux/6.1mdk) mod_ssl/2.8.10 OpenSSL/0.9.6g PHP/4.2.3.
