You are having a knee-jerk reaction, and that in the wrong forum, too ;) We don't know what the next version of OpenMG would look like. However, OpenMG is something different from MiniDisc. OpenMG is a software that is designed as te client software for electronic music distributors. EMDs would sent you privatized, encrypted files with all sorts of restrictions, like the "play 30 times". The OpenMG software would enforce these restrictions, and that would mean that OpenMG would refuse to let you save the file to a normal mini disc player. The "content people" and the "marketing people" would certainly love that. Everyone else, including the customer, obviously hates it. There is no way that a company can uphold products that are designed against the consumer, so everntually such attempts at controlling the people and the content will fail. In the near future there will be a rise of attempts to squeeze the last bits of money out of this system, though, and to illegalize all other systems. This is about much more than the next minidisc players, it's about all digital content, in any form, by any provider. So, yes, it will be horrible, but it is not about MiniDiscs or even Sony. Every single one of the large content providers is just waiting for the technology to be set up and legacy technology to be outlawed.
