Interesting. Since audio CDs don't typically carry artist/album/track 
data (hence the use of CDDB and FreeDB on computers), where do CD 
players get the trackname data that they send on their SPDIF outputs?

I'm interested in what CD players can send this info, and if MD 
recorders can use it - do you have any pointers to hardware that 
supports this?

I'm also curious about what extensions to the SPDIF protcol (similar to 
IEC-958 - see:

details) permit this. My reading of the various material on the web 
regarding SPDIF indicates that it carries only audio data.
