I compiled the latest git code, followed the procedure and exactly can undo 50 steps, then it doesn't remove any further midi events.

Both the stable and the latest development versions compile just fine here (Debian 12 64bit).

Try "sudo apt-get build-dep rosegarden" to get all the dependencies.
