There should be no recommended version version of gcc, or maybe it is a
typo for minimum version. Our CMakeLists requires 4.8 anyway. The
recommended version should be the latest version you can get your hands on
IMO. I think it would be best to just remove that from the readme.

I don't know about icu-dev, it may be needed by some other Linux flavor.
Excuse my ignorance but do you build absolutely all components when you
build on Raspbian?
