Ok, reading the first sentence under "A guide to Discourse replies":

No, I can't agree with that. That's imposing a certain way how
discussion should be lead that's contradictory to how it's happening on
the mailinglist. I am subscribed to sc-users for about 14 years now,
mostly lurking, sometimes writing. I must say it is essential for me to
have the possibility to react to a specific message rather than the
general topic. I don't feel distracted or confused at all by having
sub-threads within one topic - that's just the natural way it happens.
Viewing these messages on the discourse forum will certainly become
confusing, however...

Really, I have no objections against the design and the functionality -
it's really done nicely. But the threading thing is a big minus that
outweighs all pluses. I'm not bothered by getting flooded on the
mailinglist - I'm curious on other topics that come up as well (and
that's probably the reason why I still read the mailinglist and haven't
switched over to nabble, which I mostly see as an archive - an important
feature, of course).
