It uses a newer version of gtkmm then mandrake installs by default. It uses gtkmm2.x which is for GTK+2.x, where as mandrake only installs gtkmm1.2 for GTK+1.x. As far as I can remember mandrake does provide a rpm for this, it may be in the contrib section though. Of course compiling your self should work as well, it dosn't have any conflicts with the old gtkmm as they use different header file locations as you've found.
