Ok, if I run zinf in either LANG=ru_RU.KOI8-R or LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, I get stock translation of things like "cancel" and "apply" buttons, and I can see cyrillic named files. If I don't install your translation, then everything else is in english. Now if I manually build a zinf.mo from your .po file, and put it at /usr/local/share/locale/ru/LC_MESSAGES/zinf.po, I get a neatly translated zinf (see http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/~enxrah/zinf-ru.png) If I run in ru_RU.KOI8-R, I just get blanks were all the translated text would be. The build system is definitely broken with respect to the whole translation business. I will look into it a bit more.
