I would vote for option #1 - release from current CVS.  I personally
don't do GTK so could care less about subsequent GTK changes.  Since I
can't seem to get 2.2.4 working and I had quite an awful time
compiling CVS some while back, I would hope this new version would
compile easier.  The GTK visual stuff can come in subsequent releases.
