Why not do some form of beta/pre release, which would be a snapshot of the 
CVS as is. This would hopefully allow for time to find and sort out the 
remaining gtk2 related bugs, while still having a release of some sort 
done. Then, hopefully, you could do #2 in a couple of weeks as a full 
release, with bug fixes.

Then, looking even further ahead (probably a mistake),  you could aim for 
a beta/full release cycle for #4 sometime in the next couple of months.

What do people think?
