That is a distinct possibility about libid3.  I think I installed that
some while back before Slackware 9.1.  I don't quite understand how
this might have to do with playlists not working but the undefined
symbols in m3u and pls extensions listed in earlier posts might be the
underlying cause of my problem.  I just don't know how those items
seem to break  during execution.  I will rebuild libid3 and then
rebuild completely the zinf package.  Whatever works <sigh>.
