I'm building my own application at the moment (slow progress atm) that has
been accepted for a university proposal for a final year project for
building/installing packages from source (or autopackage or native binary
format) it's not quite in the same vein, but similar it's a graphical
application to subscribing to the application updates you want and you could
quite easily (once complete) use this to achieve a similar outcome, i could
provide more details if you like, and if you feel your project is
sufficiently different to warrent a new project go for it! :)
