Hi Dirk,

I did a small work on simulating sensor networks using 
the patch and patchgrid class. I am not sure this is what
you are talking about. I simulated a sensor network
where in the patches act as sensors which respond to
the presence of obstacles. But I did not use neural 
nets for this project.
