I don't think this is possible currently. I am pretty sure your users
will learn quickly how to use the tool, but if you want to improve the
code I will surely welcome your patches.

As a first step, I suggest you collect some idea about how the new
implementation would work and submit your thought in a new ticket
(http://mantisbt.org/bugs) or to our development mailing list
