  There are two methods to do this. 

  The custom function approach is older and will be depricated in future. There is documentation here <http://www.mantisbt.org/manual/manual.customizing.mantis.custom.functions.php>. 

  There is a newer plug-in/event approach that is documented here <http://docs.mantisbt.org/master/en/developers.html>. This is available in v1.2 and later.
