I'm using the mail interface (both with pop2 and imap) in production
with 2.X. Still with python2, though.

Also note: We have a monkey-patch for POP3 that works around a bug in
python2's pop3 implementation that tries to limit header length but
applies the check to *all* lines in the email in roundup/mailgw.py
around line 1396. This should be checked if it doesn't break with
python3.

I think that we still have some time before distributions will phase out
python2, at least debian has just released buster some weeks ago which
still has python2.
