That's not a bad idea, you could even assign sub-categories, if you
want. If you don't want sub-categories, you just remove the category
part in the blog.xsl (rightnavi div) and then it shouldn't show up. The
only "problem" is for the links to the blog, you'd have to hardcode it
somehow in the navigation (or use the bx:relink property in properties,
but they are not really language dependent currently)

links would then be

http://example.org/blog/de/ for the german part
http://example.org/en/blog/en/ for the english posts
etc..
You can even have language dependent rss feeds this way.

http://example.org/blog/de/rss.xml for german posts
http://example.org/blog/en/rss.xml for english posts
