I just (partially) ported DirectoryIterator to plain PHP and committed
it (see
https://svn.bitflux.ch/repos/public/bxcmsng/trunk/inc/DirectoryIterator.php). 
So check out the latest version and siteoptions should work - I haven't
tested the gallery and other places where this class is being used,
though.
